Understanding How God Works

“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” – Oswald Chambers
How does our kind and holy God accomplish His work? His usual method is to place a prayer burden on someone’s heart. As a person prays in response to that prayer burden, the work of God is set in motion. The sovereign God of the universe has chosen to work through prayer. A. B. Simpson stated, “There is no wonder more supernatural and divine in the life of a believer than the mystery and the ministry of prayer … the hand of the child touching the arm of the Father and moving the wheel of the universe.”
In prayer we can become co-laborers with the sovereign God of the universe. In the words of J. Oswald Sanders, prayer “invests puny men with a sort of omnipotence.” When one grasps in the heart how God works, he can understand why Andrew Murray said, “We understand then that our true aim must not be to work much; and have prayer enough to keep the work right, but to pray much and then to work enough for the power and blessing obtained in prayer to find its way through us to men.”
